Wowhead store now open for business

A tipster named James sent us a pointer to store.wowhead.com a little while ago, and as a few people have noticed since, the Wowhead store is now open for business! Here’s what they’re selling: Official Wowhead merchandise (a t-shirt, a hoodie, and a mousepad, so far – does anyone still use mousepads?) WoW paraphernalia, like those steins, and some LapWorks and Steelseries hardware products. Some random gaming hardware that seems to have nothing to do with WoW, like Guitar Hero for PS2, and Xbox 360 accessories. It is at a discount, though, so that’s cool. The Burning Crusade collector’s edition. I guess they had some extra copies [now seems to be sold out]. One interesting feature of the store is “reward points.” Every item you can buy gets you a certain number of reward points; the amount loosely correlates with price, but I couldn’t determine a direct correspondence from one to the other. Basically they idea is: buy stuff, earn

Two Bosses Enter: Gortok Palehoof vs. Krik’thir the Gatewatcher

Two Bosses Enter … but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com’s series of fantasy death matches. This season’s combatants come from the original five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King. We’ve got adds here, people: it’s Gortok Palehoof (Utgarde Pinnacle) versus Krik’thir the Gatewatcher (Azjol-Nerub). Gortok steps into the Thunderdome fresh from a resounding defeat of Lavanthor, while Krik’thir arrives after besting the Commander Stoutbeard/Kolurg from The Nexus. Let’s review the ground rules: Assume that the opponents share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. New clarification: All of the competitors’ abilities, including crowd control and other effects to which bosses are usually immune, work on their opponents. This deathmatch takes place in neutral territory, which shall in no way hinder either opponent from using his usual resources. Don’t get caught up in gameplay mechanics and what

The Queue: Normal view

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com’s daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco be your host today. Happy fifth anniversary, everyone! In honor of such a prestigious age for our young upstart MMO, this edition of the Queue … has … well, basically nothing to do with the anniversary at all. I mean, it’s not as if you guys asked any anniversary-related questions. So, we’re just setting today’s Queue to “normal view” and takin’ care of business. Shall we? Pemberton asked… How come we can’t fly from Darkshore to the Exodar? Good question! I discovered the reason why back during BC alpha. The answer has to do with how maps are set up in WoW. Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms each have their own map set, with a unique ID. Northrend and Outland both have one, too, and so does every instance in the game. What makes Exodar and Quel’Thalas different is that

Ready Check: Real time execution

Ready Check is a column focusing on successful raiding for the serious raider. Hardcore or casual, Vault of Archavon or Ulduar, everyone can get in on the action and down some bosses. I like the phrase real time execution when talking about raid management. It sounds real raid-like doesn’t it? We’re not fighting these bosses in a turn-based atmosphere. We’re providing them some real time execution. This time it’s for real, and this time, you’re getting executed! No more of this “it’s only a set back nonsense!” Real time execution is not a science. It’s a skill and it’s an art. When you refer to “real time execution,” you’re talking about the actual nuts and bolts of running the raid right now, in the instance, as-it-happens, Leeroy Jenkins style. RTE is the on-the-spot management a raid leader performs to overcome performance issues the raid is having right now, which cannot (or should not) wait for down

Using players from the realm, she has written 13 chapters in her story, each one gaining the praise and admiration of those that read. It’s become an honor when Tazeria whispers you to ask you questions about how you would picture your character if he/she was

Two Bosses Enter: Gal’darah vs. Loken

Two Bosses Enter … but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com’s series of fantasy death matches. This season’s combatants come from the original five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King. This week’s match in the Two Bosses Thunderdome makes the healer in me cringe: Gal’darah (Gundrak) versus Loken (Halls of Lightning). Gal’darah steps into the Thunderdome on the laurels of a solid 68.4 percent victory in his last battle against Moorabi. However fearsome his reputation, Loken creeps into the ring as an underdog, having lost his most recent battle against Anub’arak and subsequently re-earning a berth through the reader vote that brought back three vanquished combatants. This week’s ground rules: Assume that the opponents share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. This deathmatch takes place in neutral territory, which shall in no way hinder either opponent from using his usual resources. Don’t get

Patch 3.3 PTR: Patch Notes updated

The PTR patch notes for Patch 3.3. have been updated. Some of the significant changes: Oculus appears to have been significantly nerfed. Obviously, this was done to facilitate easier random PUGs using the new cross-server dungeon system. Divine Intervention: This ability now also removes Exhaustion and Sated from the target. In addition, the cooldown on this ability has been reduced from 20 minutes to 10 minutes. Cannot be used in Arenas. Lay on Hands: This ability will place Forbearance on the paladin if used on his or herself. It will not place Forbearance on others. Bug fixes… 158 of them by my count. It appears that Blizzard isn’t done with the changes to Lay on Hands, which should be particularly noteworthy to Paladins everywhere. I wouldn’t be surprised to see LoH go through a few more changes before all is said and done. The full changes after the break. Oculus Many bosses and creatures have had their total health reduced. Several bosses and creatures

Two Bosses Enter: Keristrasza vs. Ley-Guardian Eregos

Two Bosses Enter … but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com’s series of fantasy death matches. This season’s bosses come from the five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King. We’ve let reader votes seed the battles for the next bracket of Two Bosses Enter, One Boss Leaves, which leads straight away to this epic pairing: Keristrasza (The Nexus) versus Ley-Guardian Eregos (The Oculus). To get these two into the Two Bosses Thunderdome, we’re going to stage a jailbreak. The two dragons will meet in the swirling skies above The Nexus. We’ll remove the drake-riding mechanic from the encounter – there’s enough draconic blood here already, don’t you think? The ground (err, air?) rules: Assume that the opponents along with their minions share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. This deathmatch takes place in skies above The Nexus, (or a Thunderdome facsimile thereof). This shall in no way hinder either

Officers’ Quarters: More loot-rolling shenanigans

Every Monday Scott Andrews contributes Officers’ Quarters, a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. Last week, I addressed a situation where a married couple who leads a guild were using the old double-rolling scam to get extra loot for each other. Normally I don’t like to address the same topic two weeks in a row, but based on some of the comments from that post and the following e-mail that I received, some people still don’t get why this is a problem. So here we go again! I read your article and while I understand it I disagree in principle. Myself (holy priest) and one of our other guild officers(Lock) routinely run in pugs for 25 Naxx, we have on several occasions rolled for gear that neither of us need. Why? Long story short, we do not need the gear but we also try to make sure than one of our less geared guildies in cloth is along for the ride, and now that we can trade the stuff to them we can use three rolls per item to help them gear up
